CitizenBand is a radio: what you say on a public channel is heard by strangers. The rule is simple: no abusive, hateful, threatening or sexual content is tolerated. Any message can be reported, and its author banned.
1. The app
CitizenBand, published by Solobisoft, relays voice between phones on public channels (within a range around you), private channels (by link or code) and event channels (created by an organiser). The app is free and requires no account. By using it, you accept these terms.
2. What is forbidden
- Insults, harassment, intimidation of a person or a group.
- Hateful or discriminatory speech, on grounds of origin, religion, sex, sexual orientation, disability or any other criterion.
- Threats, calls to violence, glorification of crimes.
- Sexual or pornographic content, and any content involving a minor.
- Spam, advertising, music or noise broadcast to occupy a channel.
- False alarms on public channels or an event's Emergency channel, and impersonating an emergency service, the police or an organiser.
- Any use contrary to French law.
3. Report, block, ban
Every message can be reported from the app (Messages tab, long press, Report…): it immediately leaves the list of whoever reports it. Reported by several people, it is removed for everyone. We review every report within 24 hours, based on the message and its transcript, and delete content that breaks these rules.
A radio that breaks these rules is banned: it is disconnected, can no longer reconnect, and its messages are deleted. On an event channel, the organisers can also mute or remove a radio.
Abusive, hateful or sexual words are masked in the transcripts shown by the app.
Anyone can also, at any time, stop hearing a radio (same menu): nothing from it reaches you any more on public and private channels, and it isn't told.
4. What CitizenBand is not
CitizenBand is not an emergency service. Channel 9 is reserved for emergencies by tradition, but nobody is required to listen to it. In an accident, call 112. The app depends on the mobile network and the server: a message may arrive late, or not at all.
When driving, use a button or a hands-free kit, and don't handle the phone while driving.
5. Your messages
You are responsible for what you say. Your messages stay on the server for 24 hours, so they can be played back, then are deleted; a reported message is kept with its transcript for at most 30 days, while it is reviewed. The details are on the Privacy page.
6. Changes and contact
These terms may change; the date of the last update is shown at the bottom of the page. On the App Store, Apple's standard licence agreement applies in addition to these terms. For any question: contact@solobisoft.com.
